Two-time heavyweight champion Joshua Discharged from Medical Facility in Nigeria Following Fatal Car Crash
The British boxer Anthony Joshua has been released from care, local government spokespeople confirmed on Wednesday evening. The 36-year-old was part of a serious road collision near Lagos on Monday, a horrific crash that claimed the lives of two of his close associates.
Under Observation for Minor Injuries
Joshua had remained in the hospital while healing from his light wounds, his management team had said on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update on X that Joshua was declared medically stable to leave and heal privately.
“Joshua and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to offer their condolences to his two departed friends as they were being readied to be sent home,” Omotosho said.
Honoring the Deceased
Those who lost their lives were confirmed to be Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. Omotoso added that the champion was filled with sorrow and deeply emotional over the loss of his two dear friends.”
The news of his discharge comes as the sports world had expressed sympathy for the champion in the wake of the devastating accident.
