The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
