A competitive moment for Tsitsipas

The tennis professional disclosed he thought about ending his career due to severe spinal pain throughout the 2025 tennis year.

The 27-year-old, who has reached a career-high ranking of world number three, was a finalist against Novak Djokovic in the finals of the 2021 French Open alongside the 2023 Australian Open.

"I'm most excited lies in seeing how my training holds up under regular practice concerning my back," commented Tsitsipas.

"The biggest fear was whether I could complete an encounter," he added, noting the injury had troubled him "for the past six to eight months."

"I kept asking, 'Can I compete in another match without discomfort?'"

"I became truly frightened following the loss at the US Open [to Germany's Daniel Altmaier]. I could not to move for 48 hours. That's when you start reconsidering your career's future."

He also reported satisfaction regarding the present treatment regimen following the completion of five weeks of off-season preparation without any pain.

His next appearance for Greece in the United Cup, drawn against Naomi Osaka's Japan and the British team captained by Raducanu. The tournament takes place in Perth and Sydney from 2 to 11 January, the week preceding the season's first major.

"The greatest victory next season is to stop worrying over completing bouts," he expressed.

"It is incredibly encouraging realizing you had an off-season without pain – I wish for it to last. I want to deliver in 2026 and at the United Cup.

"The effort is invested. The most important thing is total belief that I can return to where I was. I will attempt everything to achieve that."
