Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with performances so bad.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
