Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the initial candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the squad's ten-game without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.
Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.
The manager is currently at another club, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.
However the former Luton manager - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.
The 42-year-old is said to have support from the Wolves board as they begin the search of hiring a fresh manager.
Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.
The former West Ham player is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
