Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a substantial air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were suspended after an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, considerable delays are anticipated to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the current status on their booked journeys," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers are still being urged to check the status of their trip before departing to the hub as residual delays are managed.
