A Mountain of Japanese Animation Updates Dropped During the Festive Season

The winter break present a multitude of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than checking the latest news: unwrapping gifts, feasting on festive fare, and employing patience techniques to not snapping at loved ones. Hopefully you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting news items surfaced during the holidays, and should you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter further production. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they might as well have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a good sign. But, the key visual for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, nowadays, they must be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now the community is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been airing for a while, and its sixth season was a further outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in production, and it will very likely debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Immediately following the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara.
